Everybody's Weaving Book: With More Than 400 Step-by-Step Illustrations
Alfred Allan Lewis
This book is an introduction to handweaving that really gets down to the basics. It includes terminology of parts of the loom, and different types of looms, all defined and illustrated with photographs, taken from the weaver's point of view. There also are detailed explanations of ow to read drafts and drawdowns, which make up the 'recipes' from which a weaver works. Finally, there are step-by-step directions and photographs on how to set up a loom and start weaving. The authors have chosen six samplerlike strips for you to begin with. Each uses five or more basic weaves on a slender, simple warp; each can be done on an inexpensive portable table loom or on the grandest of floor looms. In addition, an entire chapter is devoted to traditional and modern weaves not included in the six strips, all fully demonstrated with photos. In addition, there are suggestions for hundreds of weaving projects, directions for finishing, a guide to choosing a loom, a dictionary of yarns and threads with recommendations for use, as well as a cross-reference guide to the photographs that explains the term, technique, or process about which you want to know more.
