Building Pathways: lifelong learning in the construction sector
Patricia McLaughlin and Anthony Mills (eds)
As Australia moves towards the promotion of a more diverse student population in higher education and as universal tertiary education is increasingly embraced, tertiary pathways are now more than ever in the spotlight. Critical questions are being asked of pathways models and their viability is under increased pressure. Can traditional pathways models deliver the diversity of the student cohort required by government targets? Are pathways models robust enough to cope with the increased numbers of non-traditional students now being encouraged to access university degrees. The construction sector employs one in seven people in Australia and has one of the most diverse labour forces. By analysing some of the pathways models between vocational education and higher education in construction, the authors illustrate critical factors that contribute to successful student transitions and to maximising student outcomes. Some of Australia's most respected pathways academics in construction have shared their emerging research on finding pathways, consolidating pathways and developing future pathways.
