Told through the eyes of Albion Gidley Singer, a man who, to outward appearances, is a pillar of society and a good husband and father. Within him, however, are dark places that manifest themselves in fear and loathing of female flesh and finally lead to violence. The author has written several short stories and three novels, including 'Lilian's Story' which won the Vogel/'Australian' Award in 1985.
