This exciting new drama course book is based on the belief that 'drama is created when participants agree to step into a fictional world of their own making'. That is the first step in the sequential development of an original and coherent model of the elements of drama - the bones of drama, in fact. By the final chapters, students will be creating their own dramas - equipped with the tools of the trade explored here, simply and clearly, through dramatic action. The activities, role-plays and improvisations are lively and thought provoking, addressed directly to the middle secondary school student. They are highly structured, but with plenty of room for extension. Extracts from well-known playscripts are used to develop themes through performance preparation. The book provides learning opportunities for students and teachers, and is as invaluable for the experienced teacher as itis for the new teacher of drama. Brad Haseman has taught drama in secondary schools for 15 years, and is currently co-ordinating a drama teacher training programme. John O-Toole has been a drama teacher for 22 years, ten of them in tertiary institutions. He is also a playwright (The Beekeper's Boy), the author of Theatre in Education, and the director of many plays and Theatre in Education programmes. From the back cover.
