In 1932, at the height of the Depression, eighteen-year-old Kwok-ken Wong, the only Chinese boy at his Vancouver school, finds himself alienated by the racism that confronts him, until he joins the Chinese community's soccer team and develops a new sense of pride in himself and his heritage.
