Silly Symphonies, Vol. 3: The Complete Disney Classics
The Complete Disney Classics 1939-1942
Bob Karp
After more than 80 years—the complete Silly Symphony newspaper strips are collected for the first time! This third of four volumes presents the spectacular Sunday pages from 1939 to 1942, featuring adaptations of Pinocchio and The Ugly Duckling, plus original stories starring Pluto, Goofy, Minnie, Clarabelle, and Little Hiawatha! The artwork for these rare strips has come straight from the Disney vaults, each page meticulously colored using as a guide the original color proofs! It’s a symphony of fun and adventure from Disney’s classic period. About the Author Merrill De Maris was born in New Jersey in 1898 and in addition to Silly Symphonies, wrote for the Mickey Mouse strip, and contributed gags for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and other animated films. Bob Grant was an animator at the Disney studios from 1935-1938 and drew Disney newspaper strips such as Scamp and Silly Symphonies until 1968. Al Taliaferro was born in Montrose, Colorado in 1905 and moved with his family to Glendale, California in 1918. He was hired by Disney in 1931 and after inking Floyd Gottfredson’s Mickey Mouse strip, went on to draw the Silly Symphonies Sunday page, where he first drew Donald Duck, the character with whom he would become forever associated. Hank Porter was a staff artist at Disney from 1935-1950, who created the newspaper strip adaptations of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio.
