This book takes the reader on an intimate personal journey through three stages of Africa's history, spanning a period from pre-colonial times to the new millennium. It begins with Mirella Ricciardi's artistic heritage, looking at the arrival of her parents in Africa in 1928, on their one-year foot safari in the then Belgian Congo. Then the tribal warriors and panoramic landscapes of Africa, take centre stage, showing us an Africa that has almost disappeared. All the great African characters from George Adamson to Peter Beard, as well as Hollywood stars, models and fashion photographers, people the pages, together with treasured moments from Mirella's family life.

The book closes with a study of the people living in Kenya today, from which it is clear to see the astounding changes that have occurred since her family first set foot in Africa.
