This study of the rural community of Marulan in the southern highlands of New South Wales avoids the traditional male focus of such studies to concentrate on the social relationships of women and men and on women as significant forces in the social process. Poiner emphasizes both the assymetric relationships of power and the denials of the exercise of power that exist.
