Eva's Secret a Novel of Granada

The response of ordinary people to the moral challenges of sexual exploitation, religious persecution, and slavery drive this vivid tale set in the last Moorish city of Spain. Eva betrays her abuser to the Inquisition only to find that revenge can backfire. With the ruin of her powerful Jewish family, social stations reverse, putting Eva's future at the mercy of a man defined by his own terrible scars. While Eva is fictional and her surroundings a matter of history, her private story is a composite of actual incidents lived by real women. These are drawn from the many journeys the author has been privileged to walk with guests during years working with abused women and children. Although this novel is set in the past, some of the people upon whose experiences it is based have come from places where circumstances faced by the poor and powerless are little changed from those of renaissance times. (No similar claim to accuracy is made in regard to the thoughts and observations of Eva¿s pet. People are predictable, but nobody really knows what goes through the mind of a cat.)
