Written by the defence barrister in the notorious Spycatcher trial of 1986, this book traces Australia's constitutional relationship with the United Kingdom from its early days, and concentrates on the 20th century in order to reveal Australia's identity as a nation and to put the case for a republic - or, failing that, for a separate monarchy, possibly using an imported member of the present Royal Family such as Prince Andrew.
